Youths Empowerment

On 16th May 2026, the Youth of African Network (YAN) hosted a vibrant and impactful community event titled “Action Against Violence” at the Rolleston Community Centre in Leicester. The event brought together young people, community leaders, families, and local organisations in a united effort to raise awareness about violence and inspire positive change within our communities.

Held from 1pm to 4pm, the programme created a powerful platform for dialogue, education, creativity, and youth empowerment. With support from various community partners and organisations, the event highlighted the importance of collective action in tackling violence and promoting peace, unity, and opportunity among young people.

The event featured inspiring presentations, community engagement activities, and live performances by members of the Youth of African Network (YAN). These performances added energy and creativity to the programme while giving young people an opportunity to express themselves through art, music, and culture. The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with positivity, encouragement, and a strong sense of togetherness.

One of the key messages shared during the event was that violence is not only a social issue but also a community responsibility. Speakers and organisers encouraged young people to become ambassadors of peace by choosing dialogue over conflict, respect over aggression, and unity over division. Discussions also focused on the importance of mentorship, education, emotional support, and safe community spaces in helping young people avoid violence and build brighter futures.

The event also emphasised the role of families, faith groups, schools, and community organisations in supporting young people. Attendees were reminded that lasting change requires collaboration and consistent investment in youth development. Through open conversation and shared experiences, participants were able to reflect on the challenges facing many communities while exploring practical ways to promote safety, inclusion, and hope.

In addition to the educational and awareness aspects of the programme, guests enjoyed food and drinks, creating a welcoming and family-friendly environment where people could connect and build relationships. The gathering successfully combined serious conversation with celebration of culture and community spirit, making the event both meaningful and memorable.

The Youth of African Network deserves special recognition for organising an initiative that empowers young people and encourages constructive community engagement. Events like “Action Against Violence” demonstrate the power of grassroots organisations in creating safe spaces where important issues can be discussed openly and solutions can be explored collectively.

The organisers also expressed appreciation to all sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and partner organisations whose contributions helped make the event a success. Their support reflects a shared commitment to building stronger, safer, and more united communities for future generations.

As communities continue to face the challenges of violence and social division, initiatives such as this serve as an important reminder that change begins with awareness, action, and unity. The “Action Against Violence” event was not only a call for peace but also a celebration of the strength, creativity, and potential of African youth and the wider community.

The Youth of African Network continues to inspire hope and leadership through programmes that uplift, educate, and empower young people to become positive forces within society.
